Snurk is a whimsical bedding design brand started by founders Peggy and Erik in the Netherlands. It all started with the idea to raise awareness for homelessness. The team designed a comforter to look like cardboard and sheets to look like a hard concrete sidewalk. To drive the point further, co-founder Erik slept on their cardboard and sidewalk bedding in the middle of a busy square in Amsterdam. This bedding set goes by the name of Le-Clochard and Le-Trottoir and proceeds from their purchase go to The Foundation for Homeless Youngsters in the Netherlands. Even with the positive intentions, Snurk’s efforts were initially interpreted as insulting the homeless by the media.
Since then, the Snurk team has continued to develop their ideas to create out of the box bedding designs that make you take a double look. Is that a Wookie in your bed? They turn a basic set of sheets, pillow cases, and comforter into something much more interesting; a hyper-realistic simplistic 2D graphic to trick the eye.
There’s a different idea behind the kid’s collection, to live out your childhood persona through bedding, or perhaps while your child dreams. Clearly Snurk doesn’t take their design style too seriously. Kids can pretend to be horse riders, firefighters, ballerinas, astronauts, or be diving into a ball pit. From a decor standpoint, it’s an easy way to make the bed tie into your child’s room theme without going for the typical Disney vibe.
