Deck the Halls this Holiday Season with DIY Decor

It’s (almost) the most wonderful time of the year! That means it’s time to deck the halls, trim the trees, and spice up your abode with some of the most festive DIY décors of the year. We don’t all have endless money to create the perfect holiday escape. So, it’s the perfect reason to get down and DIY those holiday decorations you’ve been lusting after – for just a fraction of the cost.

Whether you’re looking for the perfect wreath to welcome guests, a centerpiece sure to please, or beyond, there’s a DIY décor hack just waiting to be discovered.

Here are a few of our absolute favorites that won’t break the bank, but will leave guests wanting to know more.

Easy DIY Decor for Your Holiday Season

Put a Bow on It

Looking to turn those store-bought bows and decor into something a whole lot more magical? You can create an eye-catching wreath for your front door for less than $15 and 20 minutes. You’ll need:

  • Styrofoam wreath (18”)
  • Gift bows – pick the perfect color combination for you
  • Seasonal decor to add where needed
  • Hot glue gun and glue

Lay your wreath on a flat surface, and heat up your hot glue gun. Pick out your bows and decor by desired color, shape, etc. The possibilities are endless. Once the glue is warm, start gluing your bows around the surface of the Styrofoam wreath in whatever design you wish. Allow the glue to dry, and voila! Your wreath is ready!

Setting the Scene with DIY Décor

Instead of settling for clunky snow village scenes this year, create a stunning snowscape on a larger (and much more magical) scale. These easy-to-find elements all add up to the perfect and petite winter wonderland décor.  You’ll need:

  • Apothecary or mason jars – you can either buy new or thrift them for a more classic look
  • Village pieces – average cost is $1 to $5 per piece and can be found at your local Target
  • 100 Mini lights
  • Faux snow – we prefer the shredded kind

Fill your jar about 1/3 full of snow, then add some of your twinkle lights on top. Cover those with more faux snow. If you only plan on using one jar, go ahead and be generous with the lights. Top with your village pieces. Allow the wire to trail out the back, and plug it in. The extra light will just add more ambiance!

Make it With Mason Jars

Let’s be honest…mason jars are pretty much the best thing since sliced bread. And, when you marry them with just a touch of holiday finery, you’re sure to craft a picture-perfect masterpiece that will look great everywhere from an entry table to your mantelpiece.  You’ll need:

  • 6 Full-size mason jars (either colored or clear)
  • Glass or plastic ornaments in varying sizes
  • Tinsel (colored or silver)
  • Shiny garland or 100 mini lights
  • Star ornament
  • Hot glue gun and glue (optional)

Fill your jars with your glass or plastic ornaments, as well as your tinsel; the more color, the merrier. Once your jars are filled, arrange them in the shape of a tree with three on the bottom row, two in the middle, and one on top. If you prefer a sturdier, more permanent look, go ahead and glue them into place. Wrap your faux tree in mini lights and glue your star ornament to the top.
