What You Need to Know about Jersey Concrete Barriers
Jersey concrete barriers are not for aesthetic installation.
Concrete Jersey barriers are effective, stable, and heavy-duty tools to obstruct pedestrians, animals, or vehicles. They can block unauthorized pedestrian access and are excellent in channeling and diverting foot traffic.
But concrete Jersey barriers are unassuming, and their design is very basic. They are not meant to be decorative. Their color allows them to blend in and be part of the road, or construction site.

A Jersey barrier is a sloped steel-reinforced concrete barrier that is typically precast. You’ll often see a line of Jersey barriers installed as roadside barricades or highway medians. Alternatively, they can designate lanes, channel pedestrians or provide perimeter protection in work areas.
A standard barrier is a short wall with a heavy bottom that stands about 81.28 cm (32 in). Its heavy base measures 33.02 cm (13 in) from the ground. The base is flanged, with each side sloping at a 50-degree angle toward the center. The slope helps to redirect the energy of the vehicle should it accidentally drift out of its lane.
The sides are nearly vertical, minimizing the chance of a vehicle jumping over the concrete barrier. The narrower upper part catches the car’s bumper, effectively stopping it and minimizing damage.
The weight of Jersey concrete barriers.
Concrete barriers vary in weight, depending on the size. The smallest, which is about 1.5 m long, weighs 1460 kg. The length of the barriers increases in 0.5-meter increments. Three-meter barriers are the longest.
A 2.0 meter-long barrier is 1560 kg, while the 2.5 m and the 3.0 m concrete Jersey barriers weigh 1300 kg and 2480 kg, respectively. Several manufacturers offer other lengths, including made-to-order sizes.
