Are you struggling to get a good night’s sleep? Interestingly, it might be your surroundings that are keeping you awake for hours on end. Moreover, you spend on average at least one-third of your life in your bedroom. Admittedly, not all of that time is spent asleep, so why not design your bedroom to be as peaceful as possible?

There’s more to the design of a serene space than simply a lack of sound. Look around your bedroom to ‘see’ the ‘virtual noise’. The virtual noise comes in many forms such as clutter, bright colors, and too much light. All these factors add to the sound and these are what you need to eliminate if you want a peaceful sleep experience.

If you want a better night’s sleep, keep reading for nine tips to help you create a space for peaceful sleep.

9 Ways to Create a Space for Peaceful Sleep

Design Your Bedroom for a Peaceful Sleep Experience

Clear the Clutter from Your Bedroom

Think of the clutter in your bedroom as ‘visual noise,’ to make it easier to remove. Get rid of the disorder, organize your closets and eliminate unnecessary furniture. All this helps to help to create an atmosphere of quiet relaxation.

Clutter distracts, in addition to being stressful and frustrating. So, the quicker you get rid of it, the better. No longer will you have to worry about falling over items when you get up in the middle of the night.

Designate Your Bedroom as a Sleep-Only Zone

Do you use your bedroom for sleeping or has it become a multipurpose space? If you undertake a range of activities in your bedroom, then, it is a place of activity. Therefore, it’s time to remove your exercise machine, find another home for your computer, clear out your textbooks and snacks, and move that pile of clothes you’ve been meaning to iron.

Use Aromatherapy to Enhance Relaxation

Sleep better with aroma therapy

Aromatherapy is a treatment that uses extracts from plants called essential oils. They can be breathed in through the nose or applied to the skin. What’s more, there are many different scents that set the mood for a peaceful environment. Lavender and jasmine, for example, have a calming and relaxing effect.

It’s also possible to feel the same effects by putting oils in the bath or having them massaged into the skin. It is thought that aromatherapy activates smell receptors that send messages through your nervous system to your brain, and for centuries, essential oils have been used for their numerous benefits.

Sleep

Sleep

The focal point of your bedroom is your bed. Position it so that it’s the first thing you see when you walk into the room. Then, ask yourself these questions:

  1. Do you have the perfect bed for you? If you’ve got a bad back, you might appreciate the support of a firm mattress.
  2. Is the mattress big enough for you and your partner?

To truly create a soothing atmosphere, dress your bed with crisp all-cotton sheets in neutral colors. For the finishing touch, add luxury down pillows. Furthermore, a couple of soft blankets will add to the cozy feeling. First, add a lightweight one when the weather is warm, then, a heavier one when the weather is colder.

Remove all Electronic Devices

Removing the electronic devices from the bedroom helps you have a better night’s sleep. Interestingly, the artificial blue light that your electronic devices emit cause sleeplessness! In fact, the release of the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin suppresses, and it makes it more difficult to fall asleep.

Additionally, watching the TV, reading emails, catching up on your social media, and playing video games all delay your body’s internal clock (your circadian rhythm).

Set the Right Temperature and Light Levels

If your bedroom is too cold or hot, it affects how well you sleep at night. Try altering your thermostat and see what works for you. A ceiling fan or portable heater also helps regulate the temperature.

Additionally, blackout curtains not only allow you to sleep longer during the summer but also keeps out the heat. As well as blocking out the early morning sun, they are very effective at blocking out unwanted light and sounds.

Set the Tone with Some Soft Music

A great way to set the mood in your bedroom is to use music. After all, you want to create a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. So, select music that makes you feel that way. You might choose from soft jazz, classical, folk, new age, or soft rock. It’s up to you to decide what sounds soft and calm. But, keep the volume low because even the softest music gets annoying if the volume is up too high. Another tip is to set your music player to shut off automatically after a certain length of time.

Make the Bed Every Morning

Make the bed every morning.

Make your bed as soon as you get out of it to give you a feeling of productivity at the start of your day. Then, you can’t help but feel good about it every time you walk past it. You might even want to grab a book and enjoy 10 minutes of relaxation. Moreover, a nicely made bed eliminates the feeling of clutter.

Light and Natural Colors

When you want to relax, it’s important to surround yourself with calming colors. It’ll only take a day to repaint your bedroom and you simply need to move your furniture around to reach the walls. Then, choose from natural and light colors. For example, white, beige, light brown, light green, or light blue.

With these tips, we hope you find some that help you have a more restful night’s sleep. We wish you a tranquil night’s sleep so you wake up refreshed and ready, each and every day.
