City living doesn’t have to be void of gardens. Having a small city space does not mean you need to miss out on adding some greenery in your life. A container garden is a great way to bring plants into your living space and are also becoming more popular with small city places. Also, do you know that surrounding yourself with greenery decreases stress?
Planting herbs in a container garden is not only a great way to get green inside your home, but also as a cooking ingredient! There are a variety of different herbs you can plant in these containers such as mint, basil, parsley, sage, peppermint, and rosemary.
Planting Your Beautiful Container Garden
Window Boxes are Charming!
If you are fortunate to have windowsills, you can make good use of that space by using window boxes. The window boxes pictured below have two different individual containers within the boxes to make switching out the containers, watering, and cleaning easier. A good idea is to place the window box outside of your kitchen window and grow vegetables in the containers such as tomatoes, peppers and squash.
Hanging Pots for Diversity
Another idea if you are limited on space is to use tiered hanging pots by placing your container garden on the various tiers. Different types of plants that will thrive indoors are ferns, spider plants, aloe, pothos or jade plants.
Stacking Ladders for a Focal Point
You can also use a small ladder to create interest inside a small place. Just stack pots on each step and use different sized pots! You can use flowers such as orchids, peace lilies, marigolds, geraniums, African violets or chrysanthemums.
Small Wall Hanging Containers
Hanging containers that can be placed on the wall are another great idea if you are limited on space indoors. These containers are small and are great for herbs such as parsley, chives, rosemary, coriander, thyme, or basil.
Outdoor Balcony or Patio
Lastly, these containers are to use on an outdoor balcony or patio. The great thing about these containers is that you can mix and match different shapes and sizes! You can pretty much plant anything inside of these containers but we suggest flowers or vegetables.
