Find Design Inspiration in Past Trends

If you pay attention you will notice that fashion trends tend to repeat themselves, just like history.  In fact, my history teacher used to say, “once is a mistake, twice is stupid.”  And, looking back, sometimes I would have to agree.  Finding design inspiration in the fashion successes of the past can bring a whole new level of elegance and sophistication to your wardrobe.  The key is knowing from which decade to choose.  (Just so you don’t take that statement as encouragement to start pegging your jeans.)

The following style advice from our panel of expert contributors is a blast from the past that will, in fact, bring both the elegance and sophistication to your wardrobe to which I was referring.

1920′s Flare

The art deco trend continues strongly with the new Spring Lisamichelle Collection. Inspired by the glamour and sophistication of the 1920’s, the line includes styles ranging from feminine, draped, silk jersey cowl necked tops and dresses that can be worn in different ways, to flirty charmeuse pant jumpsuits, layered with jeweled and embroidered accessories.

“I wanted to focus on unique fabrications and artistic materials,” Lisa Felsenthal, the collection’s creative director, said. “Mixing materials like stained glass metallic jacquard, hand painted silk chiffon, and stone-encrusted trims, allow the collection to be truly unique and each piece to stand alone as a special item.”

We should look out for special, unique and glamorous pieces in the coming year. Detail oriented accessories, with a hint of 1920′s flapper, will be all the range in 2012.

1950′s Swimwear

The biggest swimwear trend turning heads on beaches this summer has been the 1950′s style. Whether it is the fifties influence through the print or swimwear style, this has made a huge impact on beach fashion. This can be seen with the silhouette of the Silent Sky highwaisted bustier bikini and Silent Sky’s exclusive Majestic print, which can be seen throughout pieces in the collection. The Silent Sky, Sunset to Dawn collection shows this trend vividly through the pastel colour palette.

A visit to the resort pool wearing one of these Silent Sky pieces will showcase on-trend luxury and some fifties fun.
